Fall Trendmaxxing: The Coco Goose Guide to Fall 2026
Every fall the runways hand down a list, and every fall the cool girls quietly edit it. This season the list is long and a little unhinged...in the best way. Faux fur came back with real conviction. Python started behaving like a neutral. Somebody decided a gold fish belonged at the collarbone in October, and honestly, they were right.
Our buyers came home from market with their own version, and it lines up with what the fall and winter 2026 collections were saying almost point for point. Consider this the Coco Goose edit: the trends we're actually wearing, styled so they look like yours instead of a mood board. Trendmaxxing, but make it considered.
Which denim trends matter for fall 2026?

The short answer is all of them, which is the point. Fall denim isn't about picking the one right jean anymore. It's about owning a few great shapes and rotating them like you would a good pair of boots.
Dark denim. If you buy one new pair this season, make it dark. Designers leaned hard into inky indigo and warm brown rinses for 2026, and FashionUnited notes that a dark wash simply reads as more expensive, which matters when everyone is buying fewer, better pieces. Wear it with a camel coat and a loafer and you look like you have a standing reservation somewhere.

Cigarette denim. The skinny jean's grown-up older sister is back. Marie Claire spotted the slim, tapered cigarette shape on the fall runways at Totême and Gucci, and the 2026 version is cleaner and a touch less clingy than what you wore in 2014. It wants a cropped sweater or a boxy blazer on top and a ballet flat underneath.

Straight denim. The reliable middle child. A good straight-leg jean is the pair that goes with literally everything in this post, from the faux fur coat to the fish necklace.

Relaxed denim. Not going anywhere, but it's getting more polished. Who What Wear is calling time on the ultra-oversize jean that pools at the ankle, and says mid-rise shapes now feel more modern. Think a little ease through the leg rather than a puddle at the hem. Our wide-leg and baggy edit is where to start.

White and ecru denim. Winter white is the move this year. An ecru jean with a cream cable knit and a chocolate suede jacket is the most expensive-looking outfit you can build without a single logo. Browse the full Coco Goose denim wallonline or in store.
What colors and prints are trending for fall and winter 2026?

Chocolate brown, on everything. Brown is the new black, and this time the data agrees. Trendalytics clocked searches for deep brown up 50% year over year, with brown and burgundy pushing out the black-heavy fall wardrobes we've all been wearing on autopilot. Go tonal. A chocolate knit with a chocolate trouser and a slightly lighter suede jacket looks rich in the literal sense. Our tip: mix your browns on purpose so it reads as a choice and not a coincidence.

Python and animal print. Here is the plot twist of the season. Animal print has stopped shouting. Stylist Micaela Erlanger told The Zoe Report that it's now working as a warm neutral, and python in darker tones showed up alongside leopard at Saint Laurent and Carolina Herrera. Translation: a python boot or a leopard bag goes with your jeans the same way a cognac leather one would. Start with an accessory if you're nervous. You won't stay nervous for long.

Plaid. Not exactly breaking news for October, but the runways went all in. Chloé and Burberry both leaned heavily on checks and tartan, per Coveteur, and InStyle found this season's plaids more playful and less prim than usual. The cool way in is a plaid blazer or a wool skirt worn with something that has no business being near it, like a gray sweatshirt or that python boot.

Why is texture the biggest fall trend of 2026?
Because fall clothes are supposed to be touched. This season the runways treated texture like the main event, and the smartest way to wear the trend is to put two opposites in the same outfit.

Faux fur and fuzzy accents. Fur is unapologetically back, and almost all of it is faux. Coveteur's runway report saw it everywhere, with Schiaparelli going so far as fur trousers, and InStyle noted designers pulling from the outerwear of our grandmothers' generation. You don't need to go that far. A faux fur coat over jeans and a white tee is the most fun you can have before 9 a.m. If a full coat feels like a lot, go small with a fuzzy collar or a mohair knit with a halo. Fuzzy is the gateway.

Leather and suede. Leather trousers kept their grip on the runway at Khaite and Altuzarra, and suede is the softer, warmer cousin we keep reaching for. A suede jacket in tobacco or chocolate does the work of a whole personality. Shop our leather outerwear and pair it with something delicate so it doesn't feel like armor.

What shoes are in style for fall 2026?
Flat and close to the ground. The chunky era is winding down, and fall shoes have gotten quieter and much more elegant.

Loafers. The loafer is softening up. Miu Miu and Loewe both sent slipper-soft, almost moccasin-like versions down the runway, according to Who What Wear, and the stiff lug-sole versions are fading. Look for a supple leather or a chocolate suede, and wear it with a sock that shows on purpose.

Ballet flats. Still here, still the shoe our team wears most. This fall they show up in suede and animal print, and they look especially right under a cigarette jean that stops just above the ankle. Shop our flats and prepare to buy two.

How do you style fall 2026 trends so they look personal?
This is where the cool girl part comes in. The pieces above are the vocabulary. The styling below is the accent.

Scarves and bandanas. The neck scarf owned street style during fashion month, and Trendalytics tracked searches for the triangle scarf up 149% from last year. Tie a silk bandana at the throat with a crewneck sweater, or knot a wool scarf over a leather jacket and let the ends hang. Find one in our scarf edit and wear it until it softens.

Fish necklaces. Yes, still. Who What Wear caught the chicest dressers in Europe swapping their pearls for fish pendants this year, and the motif swam right into fall. Fine jewelers are taking it seriously too, with VO+ flagging tails and fins as a fall/winter 2026 jewelry story. The trick in cold weather is contrast. A little gold fish against a chocolate turtleneck is far more charming than it has any right to be. Browse our necklaces and let one fish do the talking.

Knits and button-downs, tied on. The sweater over the shoulders is back, and so is the button-down knotted at the waist. It's half styling trick, half practicality, since fall weather can't make up its mind. Toss a cashmere crew over a crisp shirt and look like you summer somewhere you don't.
The art of imperfect. Perhaps our favorite trend of all, because it gives us permission. Frayed hems and fabrics that look a little worn showed up all over Milan, with Prada describing its own pieces as eaten away. Off the runway, imperfect means a jean that's actually been worn and a tuck that's only half a tuck. Polish is still the goal. It just shouldn't look like it took effort.
One rule for the season: don't wear all of it at once. Pick two, wear them well, and let everyone wonder where you got that fish
