Article: The Autumn 2026 Fashion Color Palette

The Autumn 2026 Fashion Color Palette
Somewhere along the way, fall got stuck on camel and black. Perfectly lovely colors, but a little boring by the second week of October. It's a real conundrum; we love a CBK fall, but find ourselves yearning for a little bit more this year.
This year the runways took a hint from our boredom. The Fall 2026 shows went darker and richer, with shades that look like a good bottle of red and a cabin in Maine you'd never want to leave. We've been digging through the new arrivals at Coco Goose, and the overlap with the runway is startling (but, are we really surprised?) Six colors kept showing up. These are the ones worth your money.
WHAT COLORS ARE TRENDING FOR FALL 2026?
Pantone's Fall/Winter 2026 report named ten shades, and the two we'd actually wear on any given day are Burnt Olive and Red Mahogany. Who What Wear sifted through hundreds of new arrivals and crowned brown the foundation of the season, with green, burgundy, blue and cream right behind it.
Translation: warm and earthy, with just enough cool tones to keep it from feeling like a pumpkin patch. Our new arrivals checked nearly every box.
CHOCOLATE BROWN IS THE NEW BLACK

Because it's black, but nicer to your skin. Brown reads rich in any fabric and gets along with every other color on this list.
Start with one piece. The Wrap Blouse in Dark Chocolate from Summum belongs with dark denim and gold hoops. The Kensi Vest in Chocolate Brown from Xirena, worn over a cream sweater, is the outfit we'd wear to every coffee date until March. And the Superyumm Thermal in Chocolate Rabbit from Free City is technically a top, but you'll end up sleeping in it.
WEAR OLIVE GREEN THIS FALL

Pantone's Burnt Olive is green for people who don't wear green. It's deep enough to act like a neutral, so you don't have to overthink it.
Xirena's Jodie Sweater in Cypress Green and Braxton Sweater in Botanical Green both look great with brown trousers. If you'd rather dip a toe in, the Stanton Suede Belt in Olive from Rag & Bone does the job quietly. For more of a statement, the Cloverfield Dickey Jacket in Green Shadow Melange from Veronica Beard goes over jeans as easily as it goes over a slip skirt. And the Miller Fleece in Spruce from Jorde is what you'll actually wear up the mountain.
BURGUNDY FOR FALL 2026. GROUNDBREAKING.

Still in, just darker. Pantone's Red Mahogany sits somewhere between a glass of Bordeaux and a worn leather armchair, and it looks best when you commit.
L'Agence makes that easy with the Kendra Coated Cropped Flare Jean in Deep Sangria. It has the shine of leather pants without the sweat. Add the Tyler Silk Blouse in Midnight Deep Sangria Polka Dot and your dinner plans are handled. For a smaller dose, the Laredo Belt in Mahogany from Xirena or the Super Cloud Turtleneck in Fig from Guest in Residence gets you there. And if you're plum curious, L'Agence's Cirrus Cropped Polo in Dark Plum is a low-risk place to start.
STEP ASIDE CHOCOLATE. MAKE ROOM FOR MIDNIGHT NAVY.

Navy is what black would wear on vacation. It does the same job with more depth, and it cools down all the warm tones in this palette.
Wear it head to toe. Xirena's Jodie Sweater and Rory Pant in Midnight Blue come as a matching set, so getting dressed takes about four seconds. The Elsie Relaxed Long Sleeve Cashmere Polo Sweater in Midnight Navy from Sablyn also nods to the polo sweater, one of the biggest knit shapes of the season. Then retire your black jacket for the Oli Blazer in Midnight from TWP or the Selva Cropped Bomber in Midnight from Apiece Apart.
CREAM IN THE WINTER, ALWAYS.

Confidently, and away from the red wine. Cream is what holds the whole palette together. Wear it with brown for something soft and tonal, or with navy when you want it crisp.
Sablyn's Tristan Cashmere Crewneck Pullover in Blizzard is the one we'd buy first, with Xirena's Lela Sweater in Ivory Oat a close second. Apiece Apart's Fair Isle Mock Neck in Oatmeal makes cream feel cozy, and the Raelyn Sweater in Ivory/Marine Stripe from Nili Lotan is for anyone who already misses summer.
ADD A LITTLE ACCENT COLOR.
Yellow, surprisingly. Pantone's Acacia is a warmer, bolder cousin of butter yellow, and it looks especially good next to brown and navy. Our pick is the Newbury Suede Chelsea Boot in Dijon Suede from Rag & Bone, which makes jeans and a sweater look like a decision.
Not a yellow person? Rust gets you the same warmth. The Adria Small Crossbody in Rust from Ulla Johnson wakes up an all-neutral outfit in one move. One accent per look is plenty.
WHAT COLORS COORDINATE FOR FALL 2026?
Every color here plays well with the others, so it's hard to get wrong. A few combinations on repeat in our fitting rooms:
- Chocolate and olive: the most Vermont pairing there is.
- Sangria and midnight navy: moody in the best way, and made for holiday parties.
- Cream on cream with a brown belt: looks expensive, takes no effort.
- Navy with a Dijon boot: one bright accent goes a long way.
Keep it to two colors per outfit and let texture add the interest. Suede next to cashmere in the same shade looks far more considered than an all-neutral look.
